Blackwater (covers and originals rock band)

Top notch hard rock covers and original songs from the English Riviera.

A couple of posts on Facebook last night tempted me to go out to The Chill Bar, to see Blackwater newly formed band from Paignton (Torbay, Devon).

Aaron (vocals) Damian (Lead guitar) Dom (Rhythm guitar) Howie (Bass) and Connor (Drums) got together to form the band during 2012 and played their first gig in August.

They perform a mix of hard rock covers from the likes of Led Zeppelin, Whitesnake, AC/DC, Avenged Sevenfold, and Stone Sour (and many more) as well as their own covers which could very easily be covers that you just aren’t familiar with, because they fit in stylistically, and in terms of quality, with the aforementioned artists.

They have only performed a very small number of gigs so far, the first being in Exmouth Pavillions supporting Metalica Reloaded & Guns 2 Roses, where their manager recorded a video of their cover of The Immigrant Song, by Led Zeppelin.

Most of their gigs so far have been on the south coast of Devon, in Paignton, Teignmouth, Torquay, Brixham, and Plymouth, so this was their first foray into North Devon, but I’m fairly sure it won’t be their last.

Ray Williams who runs First Step Management has been an important influence on the live music scene in ‘Combe for many many years, booking countless artists including my old band Led Zep Too. We have him to thank for booking Blackwater, and Lawrence who runs the Chill Bar as well of course. The bar wasn’t as full as it would have been for The Roughnecks but to be fair they have already proven their worth and word of mouth is a very important factor in this town. I would assert with some confidence that the next time Blackwater come to town they will have an even better reception.

Top tips for the guys,

  1. Get a website and host paid advertising on it such as AdSense or similar.
  2. Get your original songs recorded and start monetising them on youtube
  3. Keep doing what you are doing.
